CASHMAN, Richard Jude Richard Jude Cashman died on Monday, (January
19, 2009) in
Bethesda, MD after a long illness. He is survived by his loving
wife Joanne Philleo. Jude was born in
Middletown, in 1929, to the late
William and Catherine (Hanna) Cashman. Jude attended
St. John's School,
Middletown High School and Southern Conn. State College. He was a First Sgt.
in the
U.S. 82nd Airborne Ranger Division and served in the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the all Army boxing team winning the featherweight title.
Jude had more than 125 an amateur bouts, winning 40 consecutive fights
before sustaining a defeat. For many years he operated a tree business
before moving to
Maryland. Jude is survived by his son James of South
Kingston, RI; and his grandson Simon; and granddaughter Sarah; his
step-children, Linda Gritman of Silver Springs, FL, Susan Rossi of
Framingham, MA, Steve, Dean, Brad, Philleo of Maryland and Wendy of
Virginia; and 15 loving grandchildren. Jude is also survived by his sister
Ann Marino of
Middletown; his brothers, Philip (Claire) Cashman of
Wethersfield and Shaun (Nancy) of Old Lyme; and many nieces and nephews; and
numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents, Jude was
predeceased by his beloved daughter Hannah; his brothers, Gerard, Paul and
Frank Cashman. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31,
at St. Pius Church X,
